INDLS Celebrates National Champion, Olivia!

What happens when talent, creativity, and determination come together in the kitchen? Just ask INDLS ninth grader Olivia.

Indiana Digital Learning School (INDLS) is thrilled to celebrate Olivia, who took home not one, but two top honors at the 2026 K12 National Cook-Off. Olivia earned the title of National Champion and captured the People’s Choice Award, making her the clear favorite of both the judges and the public.

After advancing through a competitive field of student chefs from across the country, Olivia showcased her culinary skills during the live finals on June 5, 2026, at Kitchen of Purpose in Arlington, Virginia. Her confidence, creativity, and beautifully executed dishes earned rave reviews — and a well-deserved national title.

From Home Kitchen to National Stage

The K12 National Cook-Off challenges students in grades 6–12 to think creatively, cook under pressure, and showcase their culinary talents.

In the first round, students created an original recipe that could be prepared within 60 minutes and included five required elements:

  • A source of protein
  • A naturally red ingredient
  • A round-shaped ingredient
  • A spice or herb (other than salt and pepper)
  • A creamy ingredient

Contestants prepared their dishes, documented their cooking process with photos, and submitted their recipes for judging.

From hundreds of impressive submissions nationwide, only five finalists were selected to receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Arlington, Virginia, where they competed live before a panel of culinary experts.

In the championship round, Olivia was randomly assigned four ingredients to feature in her dish:

  • Salmon
  • Rice Pilaf
  • Asparagus
  • Oranges

She transformed those ingredients into an impressive entrée that wowed the judges with its creativity, flavor, and presentation.

The challenge didn’t end there. During the dessert round, Olivia drew fresh blueberries and had just 30 minutes to create a dessert. She rose to the occasion with a delicious blueberry cheesecake that helped secure her championship win.

A Fan Favorite Too

Olivia’s success didn’t stop with the judges. Her creativity and mouthwatering presentations also captured the hearts and votes of the public — and earned her the People’s Choice Award.

As the People’s Choice Winner, Olivia received an additional $250!

More Than a Cooking Competition

Competitions like the K12 National Cook-Off give students the opportunity to explore their passions while building valuable life skills, including:

  • Creativity
  • Time management
  • Problem-solving
  • Communication
  • Confidence

Whether students dream of becoming professional chefs or simply enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, experiences like these encourage them to challenge themselves, try new things, and celebrate their talents.

Cooking Up Inspiration

Food has a unique way of bringing people together, encouraging creativity, and creating lasting memories. Olivia’s success is a wonderful reminder of what can happen when students combine passion with perseverance.
