How INDLS Teachers Support Every Student’s Journey to Graduation

Stories & Spotlights
Journey to graduation focus in how INDLS teachers work together to ensure student success.

At Indiana Digital Learning School (INDLS), students are never alone in their academic journey to graduation. From the moment they enroll, they gain access to a dedicated team of educators whose sole focus is guiding them toward success. Whether they need extra support, a second chance, or a flexible learning environment that meets their needs, our teachers, counselors, and administrators work together to make it happen.

This teamwork is even more essential for students in the Alternative School and Credit Recovery programs. Every student is assigned a credit recovery teacher and a counselor, who work closely with their Learning Coach (typically a parent or guardian) to develop an academic plan tailored to their needs. Whether that means a mix of general education and credit recovery courses or a full credit recovery-focused schedule, the team ensures that every decision supports the student’s path to graduation.

A Connected Network of Support

What makes INDLS unique is the collaborative effort across all school levels. Teachers aren’t working in silos—they are in constant communication with counselors, administrators, and each other to find what works best for each student.

  • Credit Recovery teachers contact students daily, identifying where they need support and adjusting strategies accordingly.
  • Counselors help align coursework with graduation requirements and provide essential guidance on academic planning.
  • The Principal of the Alternative School supports teachers’ recommendations, ensuring that students are placed in the right learning environment to maximize their success.
  • The Head of School is directly involved, even reaching out to personally congratulate students when they complete important milestones.

“At INDLS, we’re committed to our students and ensuring they have the support they need to succeed academically,” said Liz Sliger, Executive Director of Indiana Digital Learning School. “Our teachers, counselors, and administrators work together to provide personalized support, guiding each student toward success and helping them not just reach but exceed their goals.”

The Difference a Team Can Make in the Journey to Graduation

One recent success story perfectly illustrates the power of teamwork at INDLS. A student who had struggled with truancy for years finally re-enrolled, but the road ahead wasn’t easy. She had fallen behind, felt discouraged, and wasn’t sure she could catch up.

From day one, her credit recovery teacher, counselor, and INDLS’ executive director worked together to support her. Her teacher checked in daily, offering encouragement and reminding her that progress—no matter how small—was still progress. Her counselor helped map out a plan to make graduation achievable, ensuring she had the right resources in place. And behind the scenes, INDLS leadership followed her journey to graduation, celebrating every milestone.

Then, something incredible happened—she completed her first course. It was a turning point, proof that she could do this–and before she could even fully process the moment, she received a personal message from INDLS Executive Director Liz Sliger, congratulating her on her accomplishment.

“You’re on your way. We’re all cheering for you,” Liz told her.

That small but powerful gesture meant everything. It wasn’t just about finishing one course but about knowing that an entire team believed in her success. Today, she’s continuing her journey to graduation, now fully engaged and determined to reach graduation, with the unwavering support of the INDLS community behind her.

Above and Beyond for Student Success

At INDLS, our teachers do more than just teach—they advocate, guide, and believe in their students even when they struggle to believe in themselves. They don’t give up when students disengage; they check in, make calls, and find creative ways to bring them back into learning. They don’t see failure as the end—only as a steppingstones toward another opportunity.

This is the INDLS difference—a school where students are not just names on a roster but individuals with a dedicated team behind them, committed to helping them cross the finish line.
