Student Voices Take the Stage at French Lick: A Look Back at the INDLS Student Panel

On July 31, 2025, the Indiana Digital Learning School (INDLS) hosted a powerful and inspiring Student Panel at the historic French Lick Resort. In front of a full room of staff and educators, students from grades 2 through 10 took the stage and shared their candid thoughts about their experiences at INDLS—what’s working, what could be better, and why they’re proud to be Rockets.
The goal of the panel was simple but profound: to give students a platform to speak honestly and directly to the very people who shape their learning every day. Guided by thoughtful questions, students discussed everything from navigating online tools to how teachers support them during tough moments.
Their feedback was real, refreshing, and full of hope.
Students praised INDLS for its supportive teachers, flexible learning environment, and the personalized attention they receive. One student shared, “I like that my teachers check in with me one-on-one. It makes me feel like they actually care.” Another added, “School is easier for me now. I get to focus, and I feel less stressed than I did before.” Several students even mentioned how much they appreciated the gamification elements and enrichment options like The Zone, saying.
For students like Ian G. and Ambra B., the panel wasn’t just a chance to share—it was a moment of personal growth. Ian’s mom shared that the experience gave him a huge confidence boost, and that he left feeling proud and heard. Ambra’s mom echoed the sentiment, calling it the highlight of their summer. Ambra was so excited, she printed photos for her memory album and was already asking if she could join again next year.
And we heard them loud and clear.
In response to the student panel, INDLS is already working to expand The Zone—our interactive, student-led space—with more opportunities for connection, collaboration, and gamified learning experiences. Plans are underway to incorporate team-based activities, virtual clubs, and friendly competitions to help students stay motivated while having fun. We’re also adding new ways for students to connect socially through structured peer discussions and school-wide games.
As educators, it was a reminder that student feedback isn’t just important—it’s essential. Their voices are guiding our mission to improve student engagement, retention, and connection every step of the way.
We’re listening—and we’re leading.
