How an INDLS Student is Making a Change in her Community
Kaylee Fetty, a 10th grader at Indiana Digital Learning School, is just like any other high school student. She attends class, spends time with her friends, participates in clubs, and cares about her community.
Kaylee joined INDLS in her first year of high school. She wanted time to focus on her education while also being able to participate in extracurricular activities and knew that INDLS would be her opportunity to excel academically and personally. Since joining INDLS, Kaylee has set herself up to complete a full year’s worth of college credits before graduating, participated in clubs including the National Honor Society, World Language Club, and Future Health Professional’s Club, and has even worked with INDLS teachers to create the Fiber Arts Club, as she is an avid crocheter.
In addition to her academics and extracurriculars at INDLS, Kaylee wanted to become more involved in her local community within Fort Wayne, Indiana. Looking for options to get involved, Kaylee applied for and joined the Fort Wayne Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council.
As a member of the Council, Kaylee and her team organized a city-wide toy drive ahead of the holiday season, collecting toy donations through local schools, churches, and Amazon Wishlists to then be donated to families in the community. INDLS staff and virtual peers joined the mission and supported Kaylee and her team’s efforts to increase impact.
Watch Kaylee share her experience with the Fort Wayne Mayor’s Youth Engagement Council in the Kids Who Care segment on her local news station, WFFT, here.
